President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated on Saturday the United Arab Emirates on the operation of its Barakah nuclear energy plant, the presidency said on its official website.

"I extend congratulations to the United Arab Emirates and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed on launching operations at Barakah Nuclear Power Plant," El-Sisi said, describing it as "significant accomplishment" added to the UAE’s record.

The United Arab Emirates on Saturday announced the successful startup of its nuclear power plant

Barakah, the first Arab nuclear energy plant, was built by a consortium led by the Korea Electric Power Corporation at a cost of $24.4 billion. When fully operational, its four reactors have the capacity to generate 5,600 megawatts of electricity, around 25 percent of the UAE's needs.

"This achievement embodies the long-awaited and aspired dream of the Arab nation to be a great and inspiring pioneer in all fields serving humanity," the president added.
