Israeli national dies and two Egyptians are injured during clashes between security forces near flashpoint Rafah border crossing, official sources report

Official sources have confirmed that Egyptian authorities are holding the body of an Israeli citizen shot in the border area between Egypt and Israel in the city of Rafah in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

According to the source, two Egyptians were also injured.

The Israeli was reportedly shot after clashes erupted with machine guns between the two sides.

Sources claim that Israeli border authorities were pursuing smugglers emerging from Israel who may have entered Egyptian land. Egyptian security ended up clashing with Israeli forces resulting in the death of the Israeli.

It remains unclear whether the smugglers were Egyptian or Israeli.
