Heavy rains and thunder, which spread across Egypt’s governorates on Friday, have led to the closing down of the Alexandria and Dakhlia ports.
Cairo has also been hit hard as rising water levels in the streets cause severe traffic congestion in the capital’s downtown area. The rain has also made it hard for worshippers emerging from their Friday prayers to return home.
The turbulent weather has also resulted in the cancellation of a Nile Basin Tournament match between Tanzania and Sudan which was due to be held in Cairo.
The Minya governorate in Upper Egypt was also overwhelmed by heavy rain this afternoon.
Weather forecasters expect the turbulent weather to continue through Monday evening, with thunder, heavy rains and cold temperatures hitting most of the country’s governorates.
