Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Thursday, 8 October, will be a fully paid day off in commemoration of the 6 October War victory.
The decision applies to public and private sector workers and municipal and public business sector employees.
The 6 October anniversary marks Egypt’s victory in the 1973 War against Israel.
In June, the government decided to make Thursday a day off instead of any week-day holiday to "give citizens a chance to have a long weekend."
Cabinet spokesman Nader Saad said this approach will apply to all national holidays in the coming period, except for Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha and Christmas.
