Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated Egypt's support of the efforts of UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Nickolay Mladenov to revive the peace process and achieve security and stability in the region, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.

After Shoukry had received Mladenov in Cairo, he stressed Egypt’s unchangeable stance backing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, based on the two-state solution and the relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

During the meeting, Shoukry and Mladenov discussed chances for parties to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to re-engage in the peace process.

Mladenov said he wants to continue coordination with Egypt in efforts to achieve regional peace, security and stability.

The UN official added he appreciates Egypt’s role in supporting efforts to achieve a permanent and fair solution to the Palestinian issue, as well as its role in unifying Palestinian factions.
