Veteran judge Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek has been elected as speaker of the Egyptian Senate after he ran un-contested for the position. 

Abdel-Razek, 72, won 287 votes out of 299, with 12 votes void.

He was the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court from July 2016 to July 2018.

Abdel-Razek currently heads the Mustaqbal Watan (Future of the Homeland) Party, which holds a majority in parliament's Upper House, with 147 seats, or 74 percent of the 300 seats.
