The Egyptian Foreign Ministry welcomed on Friday the permanent ceasefire agreement reached between Libya’s two warring factions during their talks in Geneva.

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson, Ahmed Hafez, said that Friday’s success completed the work in the face-to-face meeting between the two sides, which was hosted by Egypt in Hurghada in late September.

The ministry lauded the agreement reached by the military representatives of the two sides "to preserve calmness on the frontlines and avoid escalation," calling on all countries that are involved in Libyan affairs to guarantee against escalation..

“Egypt hopes for continuing efforts on a political track and backing of UN envoy's efforts to preserve Libya's stability and sovereignty over its territories, stressing the necessity that all foreign forces leave the country,” the sttement added.
