The Egyptian Ministry of Manpower said on Saturday that it relieved one of its officials from his post after making offensive remarks on social media towards the new Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. 

The ministry, in a statement, said it also referred the official to be investigated by a high-level legal committee and suspended him pending the investigation. 

Social media users had shared a screenshot of the offensive post that the ministry official had made towards the emir. 

The ministry, in their statement, said it immediately took all legal procedures towards the official. 

“What he [the official] issued on social media is considered a violation and a breach that is not in any way related to the Egyptian government, as what this official had issued came through his personal page on social media,” read the statement.

The ministry also stressed keenness to maintain strong relations between the people and states of both Kuwait and Egypt. The statement affirmed that the two sides are both keen on developing the relations they share in a way that achieves the interests of both countries.

Egypt and Kuwait share strong historic relations on economic, social and political levels. 

Kuwait is host to hundreds of thousands of Egyptian expatriates who have worked in the oil-rich country for decades. 

On Friday, the Egyptian ambassador to Kuwait, Tarek El-Kouny, expressed "deep regret and complete rejection and condemnation" of the official’s offensive statements, affirming that what happened is “only an individual act,” the embassy said in a separate statement. 

"He will not be in a position that allows him to repeat such behaviour," said the ambassador.
