President Sisi- EU Council President Charles Michel
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi told the European Council President Charles Michel that Egypt will spare no effort to cooperate with the European body and world countries to spread the values of moderation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
During a phone call on Sunday night, El-Sisi told Michel Egypt will continue to provide its expertise and capabilities in this respect to achieve the desired goals via its religious institutions, especially Al-Azhar, the Sunni Muslim world’s top religious institution.
Michel said the European Council depends mainly on Egypt in confronting extremist ideology and fighting violence and fanaticism, given its role which he said is marked by balance and wisdom under the leadership of El-Sisi.
Michel added that Egypt has become a role model in coexistence and cooperation among nations, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
The phone call comes amid heightened anger in the Muslim world over the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad by the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
It also comes amid worldwide condemnation of the murder of a French teacher who used the cartoons as part of a lesson plan on freedom of speech, and a terror attack on a church in Lyons that left three dead.
