Egypt's Health Ministry reported on Wednesday 207 new coronavirus cases bringing the total infection tally to 108,329 since the outbreak began in February.

The health ministry also reported 13 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 6,318.

The statement said that 109 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 99,874.

The government has urged caution due to the recent slight increase of the daily detected coronavirus cases in Egypt.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said during a cabinet meeting earlier on Wednesday that the country will exercise “zero tolerance” against people who fail to adhere to preventive measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a statement by the cabinet, Madbouly said infections are on an upward curve, urging citizens to adhere to the restrictions to avoid “unnecessary difficult scenarios” while ordering the relevant authorities at the same time to fine violators of preventive measures, mainly wearing face masks, among other measures.

Health Minister Hala Zayed reviewed in the same meeting the status of Egyptian hospitals nationwide with regard to the cases detected during last week by saying that the occupancy rate of hospitals' beds is 12 percent, the occupancy rate for intensive care beds is 50 percent, while the occupancy rate for ventilators is 19 percent.
