Defendants' angry relatives storm Port Said court following decision to move ongoing football trial to Cairo

The mother of one of the suspects in Egypt's recent Port Said football disaster attempted to commit suicide on Thursday after a court decision to transfer trial proceedings to the Cairo Police Academy.

Following the decision, defendants' relatives stormed the Port Said Court, smashing all of the courtroom's windows.

The mother of one of the suspects attempted to jump from a third-floor window before being stopped by security personnel.

Angry relatives also attempted to block the road in front of the court building.

The ensuing violence left five injured.

On 1 February, football fans stormed the pitch in Port Said Stadium following a heated match between rival teams. More than 70 people were killed and hundreds injured in the subsequent melee.

About 75 suspects were detained in the wake of the tragedy, most of whom were natives of Port Said.
