A minor earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was detected close to Mahalla city in Egypt’s Gharbia governorate on Sunday, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) said in a statement.
The quake was recorded at 11:52am local time, 10km away from southeastern Mahalla city in the Nile Delta.
No injuries or property damage have been reported, the NRIA said, adding that it has not received information on whether the quake was felt by residents.
Egypt typically rarely sees earthquakes.
