Prominent Egyptian human rights activist and lawyer Hafez Abu Seada passed away on Thursday, his wife, lawyer and women’s rights activist, Nehad Abo El-Komsan announced.

A week ago, the chairman of the Egyptian Organisation for Human rights declared that he tested positive for Coronavirus and was admitted to the hospital.

Born in 1965 in Cairo, Abu Seada was a student activist during his study in the faculty of law in Cairo University.

Following his detention in the 1980s, Abu Seada became a human rights lawyer.

Aside from being the chairman of Egypt’s oldest human rights organisation since 2009, Abu Seada was a member of the National Council for Human rights since 2004.

Egypt has officially registered 114,107 cases of Coronavirus so far, including 6,585 fatalities and 102,201 full recoveries.
