Egypt reported 544 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total infection tally to 123,153 since the outbreak began in mid-February.

The health ministry also reported 24 new deaths, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 6,990.

The statement said that 269 patients had been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 105,719.

Egypt, last Thursday, received doses of a vaccine developed by Chinese state-owned pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm at Cairo Airport, as the health ministry said it has proven 86 percent effectiveness against coronavirus.

The country has been recently witnessing a rebound in coronavirus daily cases.
