The Alexandria security directorate announced that six people were killed and one was injured in a fire that broke out at a centre for addiction treatment in Alexandria’s western district of Bitash.

The directorate said firefighting vehicles managed to control the fire at the two-storey building.

It noted that 45 people resided in the centre, adding that the permits allowing treatment inside the centre are being inspected.

A police report was sent to the relevant prosecution body to initiate an investigation into the incident, the directorate added.

The incident comes a week after a massive fire broke out at a depot in Alexandria Port that did not cause any casualties. It reportedly took several hours before civil defense could extinguish the fire.
