Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected on Friday the work progress at a number of major road and bridges networks and utility development projects in East Cairo, a statement by the presidency said.

 

The inspection tour covered a number of new main roads, road axes and bridges in East Cairo, including Nasr City district, Ezbet El-Haggana district, and the Misr El-Gedida neighbourhood.

 

The president was briefed by officials on the latest developments in road development projects, including the construction of a new road axes that links the neighbourhood of Nasr City with the Cairo Ring Road, New Cairo, and El-Rehab City, according to the statement.

 

He was also briefed on development efforts in the informal neighbourhood of Ezbet El-Haggana district as part of the government's ongoing projects to develop slums and connect them with major road axes.

 

This will be done through constructing main roads instead of narrow lanes, with the aim of putting an end to the overcrowding there so that fire trucks, ambulances, and heavy transport vehicles can manoeuvre smoothly.

 

The work in Ezbet El-Haggana included upgrading all basic services and infrastructure within the area, painting the facades of buildings, establishing a modern terminal for public transport, and providing new shops for street vendors, the statement added.

 

Also, according to the statement, thousands of citizens who were residing in insecure and dangerous areas under the high-voltage electric lines in Ezbet El-Haggana were also transferred to the well-equipped city of Ahalina, with the aim of raising the standards of living for those citizens.

 

The president also inspected "the network of bridges and the new main axes that were implemented in the Nasr City district, which ended the congestion that the neighbourhood had been suffering from for decades and achieved traffic smoothness … alongside a series of other new axes and bridges in the areas and neighbourhoods of East Cairo," the statement added.

 

During the tour, El-Sisi saluted crowds who welcomed him in Misr El-Jadidah, calling on citizens to adhere to all preventive measures against coronavirus, especially wearing facemasks.
