Egypt reported 1,359 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total infection tally to 133,900 since the outbreak began in February.
The health ministry also reported 61 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 7,466.
The statement said that 421 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 110,436.
Today's infections and death tolls are the highest in almost five months.
Despite reporting low rates over the past five months, more than 1,000 people have been infected every day since Thursday, with daily deaths rates hovering at 40-50.
The country is currently witnessing a second wave of the coronavirus.
The cabinet announced on Sunday a number of measures to curb the spread of the virus, including the imposition of an EGP 50 fine for not wearing masks in public starting next week.
The government also banned all New Year’s Eve celebrations and maintained restrictions on occupancy for hotels, restaurants and cafes.
