Egypt reports 996 new coronavirus cases, 58 deaths on Wednesday

Egypt entered a second wave of the pandemic since the last week of December after it recorded double the number of infections daily

Egypt reported 996 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday bringing the total infection tally to 152,719 since the outbreak began in February.

The health ministry also reported 58 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 8,362.

The statement said that 677 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 120,312.

Egypt entered a second wave of the pandemic since the last week of December after it recorded double the number of infections daily.

The spike comes after almost five months of reporting lower daily infections and death tolls.
