Egypt’s cabinet approved on Tuesday contract between the country's National Authority for Tunnels and the French state-owned Autonomous Parisian Transportation Administration (RATP) to manage and operate the new electric train, which aims to facilitate access to the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The a 15-year, one billion euro contract between the Egyptian and the French sides was signed in September.
The new electric train will connect Cairo with various cities, including Obour, Mostaqbal, El-Shorouk, New Heliopolis, Badr, the Industrial Zone, 10th of Ramadan and the New Administrative Capital.
The line, which is being built by the Chinese AVIC-CREC consortium in cooperation with Egyptian companies, is 72% complete.
Egypt is expanding and upgrading the transportation network in Greater Cairo through the construction of new underground metro lines, multiple bridges, and major roads and freeways.
