The Arab League said it will hold an emergency meeting on 8 February aimed at bolstering Arab solidarity amid developments in the region and supporting Palestinians' legitimate rights, state-owned MENA agency reported on Wednesday.

Hossam Zaki, Arab League Assistant Secretary General, told MENA that the meeting comes upon a request by Egypt and Jordan.

He said the meeting aims to develop a common Arab position towards developments in the region which require a stance that would achieve protection to Arab security and serve joint Arab interests.

The emergency meeting will also discuss bolstering common Arab solidarity and reiterate principles related to the Palestinian cause.

Earlier this month, Cairo hosted a quartet meeting with the participation of the foreign ministers of Germany, Jordan and France to discuss coordination and consultation to push the Middle East peace process forward.

Cairo supports the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only way to reach a fair solution to the Palestinian crisis.
