Fire control units in Giza are working continuously to put out a massive fire in a 13-storey building in Kerdasa district that reportedly started on Saturday afternoon. No casualties have been reported to date.

The building, located near the Ring Road, has reportedly more than 100 apartments. The fire has caused traffic delays and diversions.

The fire started at a shoe and leather store on the ground floor, the Giza governorate’s office said on Sunday.

Giza Governor Ahmed Rashed ordered the evacuation of the building, the governorate office said, adding that the huge shoe storage has obstructed the firefighting efforts.

The civil protection department has set a 2 km cordon around the building to prevent people from approaching, according to media reports.

The fire caused severe damages to the building and has reportedly caused the ceiling of the basement to collapse.
