Hossam Hosny, chairman of the Scientific Committee to Combat the Coronavirus, revealed on Monday the development of an updated version of the coronavirus treatment protocol, which has been updated three times before. It is considered one of the best protocols in the world.

The information was revealed during a joint webinar, “Chronic diseases in the time of Corona”, which was organised by the National Committee for Non-Communicable Diseases and the Scientific Committee for Corona under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Population.

Changes to the protocol usually happen when there are modifications that can help improve the efficacy of the treatment, explained Hosny. The current protocol, created in Egypt, is much more effective and has really helped raise recovery rates.

Hisham El-Hefnawy, head of the National institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, explains how the National Committee for Non-communicable Diseases, since its inception by the health ministry, has held many forums for discussion and has recently established a special treatment protocol designed for those who suffer from non-communicable diseases (NCDs), who have been deemed the most vulnerable groups susceptible to contracting the virus.

The main types of NCDs are cardiovascular diseases — like heart attacks and strokes —  cancers, chronic respiratory diseases — such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma — and diabetes says the WHO, and are the result of a combination of genetic, physiological, and environmental factors.

On Sunday, Egypt received the first batch of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, consisting of 50,000 doses, on board an Emirates Airline plane coming from India.

Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Sunday night that vaccine doses will be provided to people over 60 years of age starting mid-February.

They will be followed by people suffering from chronic diseases of all ages and people inhabiting closed crowded areas such as prisons, Zayed added in media statements.
