Parts of Cairo, Giza, and Qalioubiya have witnessed thunderstorms with moderate and heavy rainfall and hail on Tuesday that are expected to continue throughout the day, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority announced.
The EMA warned of a wave of unstable weather conditions starting yesterday, saying that Tuesday would be the peak.
The authority said on Tuesday that it expects rainfall of varying intensity to continue in Cairo throughout the day and heavy rainfall and thunder to continue in Alexandria, northern Nile Delta, and the Suez Canal cities.
The clouds will be moving to the northern part of Upper Egypt and, by the end of the day, large parts of Sinai will likely be affected with the same unstable weather, the EMA added.
It also expected heavy rains and thunderstorms in some parts of the north-eastern coast and the middle of Sinai, and light to moderate rainfall on the north-western coast.
Moderate rainfall to thunderstorms in some parts of South Sinai and the Red Sea mountains is also expected.
North Upper Egypt will also witness moderate rainfall to thunderstorms on Tuesday, the EMA said on Sunday, noting that marine activities in the Red Sea would also be disturbed.
