Egypt detected 577 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing its total infections tally nationwide to 184,168 since the outbreak last year, a statement by the health ministry said.
The health ministry reported 44 new deaths, bringing overall fatalities from the virus nationwide to 10,822.
The statement added that 500 patients have been discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours to mark total recoveries at 142,155.
The country has started its coronavirus vaccination campaign in January, vaccinating thousands of health workers nationwide.
The state is preparing to start vaccinating the elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases, who are willing to receive the vaccine, in the next few days.
The country also imported 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in India late in January and is set to receive 8.6 million doses of this vaccine soon.
