Egypt’s Supreme State Security Prosecution ordered on Sunday the release of journalist Mostafa Sakr, who is facing accusations of joining a terrorist group, “under precautionary measures”.

Sakr was arrested in April 2020 over accusations of joining a terrorist group, threatening general security and peace, and disseminating false news.

According to the law, the precautionary measures may include house arrest, spending a few hours in the police station every week, or banning the accused from going to some places until a trial is held.

The Sunday decision comes a few hours after Diaa Rashwan, the head of the Journalists Syndicate, promised on his official Facebook page “good news about our colleagues [journalists] who are remanded in custody.”
