A large fire that broke out on Tuesday at a gas pipeline in Beheira’s Idku has been brought under control, a statement by the petroleum ministry read.

Yasser Salah, the chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), said that the fire broke out at a pipeline located along the international coastal road during its first pilot operation.

An informed source at the petroleum ministry told Al-Ahram that no casualties have been reported.

He added that the ministry is currently assessing the damage caused by the fire, and that maintenance of the pipeline will be carried out later to restore its operations.
