The Chinese Embassy in Cairo announced on Wednesday it has launched an inoculation drive to vaccinate more than 5,000 Chinese nationals in Egypt.

According to the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Cairo Xiao Junzheng, Chinese nationals in Egypt can register on the local emergency vaccination systems to receive free vaccines.

Two medical institutions are designated to inoculate Chinese citizens by the Egyptian government, Xiao added.

Egypt is already using China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine in its mass vaccination campaign after its emergency use in December. Egypt was the first African country to receive the Sinopharm vaccine in December, acquiring 50,000 doses from the United Arab Emirates as a gift.

In the third week of February, Egypt received the second batch of 300,000 doses of Sinopharm from China.

Egypt is slated to receive another batch, composed of 300,000 doses of Sinopharm, on Thursday, raising the total number of doses that the country has received to 700,000.

On 28 February, Egypt launched a website for people over 18 years of age wishing to be inoculated. Priority is given to citizens over 65 years and patients with chronic diseases.
