Military units and security forces attempt to end clashes near Cairo's Defence Ministry which have killed at least 9 people since Wednesday morning

Soldiers and Central Security Forces have arrived at the Defence Ministry in Abbasiya, Cairo, in an attempt to end clashes between supporters of disqualified Salafist presidential candidate Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail and local residents, which have killed at least nine people since early Wednesday morning according to official reports.

Central Security Forces have moved into position between the two groups in an attempt to end the stone throwing.

Soldiers from the Central Military Zone are taking part in the operation.
