Veteran Egyptian journalist Assem El-Kersh died on Thursday morning aged 66 after suffering from COVID-19 complications.
Before being appointed as editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Weekly, the English-language weekly newspaper issued by Al-Ahram establishment, from 2005 to 2012, El-Kersh had served as director of Al-Ahram office in London.
El-Kersh, born in 1954, started his career in Al-Ahram's Foreign desk before becoming a presidential reporter. He also worked with a number of foreign news agencies, including the Associated Press.
El-Kersh graduated from the Faculty of mass communication at Cairo University in 1975.
