President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi thanked on Monday “every faithful Egyptian who contributed technically and practically to ending the crisis of the [Ever Given] ship,” which has brought to a halt navigation in the Suez Canal for almost a week.
“Egyptians managed today to end the crisis of the delinquent ship in the Suez Canal despite the tremendous technical complexity that surrounded this operation,” El-Sisi wrote in a post on Facebook.
“With things back to normal, at the Egyptians' hands, the world is reassured about the path of its goods that pass through this pivotal lifeline,” the president added.
“Egyptians have proven today that they are always up to the task and that the canal their grandparents dug and their fathers defended Egypt’s right to will always stand witness to Egyptians' determination to chart their own course,” El-Sisi said.
The delinquent Panamanian container ship EVER GIVEN, which has blocked the canal since it ran aground on Tuesday, has started to float successfully after the ship responded to the latest tugging maneuvers, Admiral Osama Rabie, the chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, announced on Monday morning
Satellite data from MarineTraffic.com showed on Monday morning that the ship's bulbous bow, once lodged deep in the canal's eastern bank, had been partly wrested from the shore after intensive tugging maneuvers -- although it remains stuck at the canal's edge.
