The Egyptian Armed Forces said on Wednesday that it has deployed teams to carry out disinfection operations in the major mosques of Al-Hussein, Amr Ibn Al-Aas and Al-Azhar during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

The sterilisation of mosques is part of a campaign by the Armed Forces to sterilise places frequented by citizens during the holy month to avoid a rise in coronavirus cases, a statement by the Armed Forces’ spokesman Tamer El-Refae said.

The disinfection operations include the facades, walls and the floor of the three mosques, the spokesman said.

He added that these operations are in line with the precautionary measures the state has taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

It also comes “within the framework of the Armed Forces General Command's keenness to allocate all its capabilities to assist the various state authorities,” the spokesman added.
