Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has offered condolences for the death of veteran Egyptian journalist Makram Mohamed Ahmed, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 86. after a long battle with illness.
In a cable sent Friday to head of Egypt's Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) Karam Gabr, Abbas mourned the late journalist, who had long supported the Palestinian cause.
Ahmed served as head of the Syndicate of Journalists for five terms as well as the secretary-general of the Union of Arab Journalists.
He was also appointed as the first chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, which was formed in 2017.
