Egypt’s social solidarity ministry warned the public that some websites, social media networks, and SMS messages are propagating fake news claiming that the ministry is presenting "exceptional" monetary support and awards to some poor families.

According to the statement released by the ministry on Tuesday, the messages and posts claimed falsely that the ministry is presenting EGP 3,000 lump sums in financial support to poor families.

The ministry warned that these messages aim to use the personal data of citizens to piblicise scams, adding that it was taking legal actions against those spreading those messages.

It also added that its announcements and updates about grants and financial support to citizens are issued only through its official channels, including its official website “moss.gov.eg” or its verified social media accounts.
