Egypt reported 1,021 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total infection tally to 227,552 since the outbreak began in February.
In a statement, the health ministry also reported 61 new deaths, raising the total number of deaths from the virus to 13,339.
The ministry added that 765 patients have been discharged after they recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 170,773.
Egypt is currently suffering from a third coronavirus wave, with the daily caseload surpassing 1,000, in the past four days, for the first time since 9 January.
Health Minister Hala Zayed said last week that a surge in infections throughout April has been expected due to religious occasions and related social habits.
This comes as the country has been inoculating vaccinating priority groups against the virus using the Sinopharm and the AstraZeneca vaccines.
Egypt has so far received over 1.5 million doses of both vaccines, out of the 100 million doses it has contracted to get, according to the minister.
