Egypt detected 1,051 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, bringing the total infections tally since the outbreak last year to 229,635.
The health ministry also reported 67 deaths, bringing the total fatalities to 13,469.
800 patients have been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 172,342, the ministry added.
Egypt is currently suffering from a spike in infections, with daily reported cases at over 1,000 in the past few days, the first sharp rise of its kind since 9 January.
Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Saturday that a spike in coronavirus cases throughout April has been expected due to religious occasions and related social habits.
Zayed also said that the third wave is globally seeing a rise of 10 percent while there is a seven percent rise in infections and deaths, respectively, more than the previous waves.
