Egypt's Ambassador to Austria Mohamed El-Mulla has been elected as the Vice-Chair of a UN cybercrime ad hoc committee.

The committee aims to draft a comprehensive international convention that counters the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes.

El-Mulla, who also serves as Egypt's Permanent Representative to the UN office in Vienna, won the post after the competitive elections were held on Monday at the UN headquarters in New York, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
