Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has arrived at the French Éphémère palace, where the Paris Conference to support Sudan’s transition will be held, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady announced.

President El-Sisi has met with several African and international figures participating in the event, Rady added.

The president will also take part in a two-day summit, slated for Monday and Tuesday, on financing African economies.

Sudan seeks assistance in paying off a $60 billion foreign debt bill to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It also eyes securing investment deals to revive its clobbered economy after decades under former President Omar Al-Bashir.

France's Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Monday that his country will lend Sudan $1.5 billion to help the African nation pay off its massive debt to the IMF.

On Sunday, El-Sisi told the head of Sudan’s ruling council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan that Egypt will contribute to the international initiative to settle Sudan’s debts through the utilisation of Egypt’s quota at the global lender for doubtful debts to be settled.
