Egypt received the first shipment on Friday of the raw material used to manufacture China’s Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine in the country, the Ministry of Health and Population announced.
The health ministry also announced that a new shipment of 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine arrived on the same plane.
According to the ministry, the first shipment of Sinovac’s raw material is enough to manufacture 2 million doses at the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) by the end of June.
The local end-product will then undergo assessment by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) for several weeks before they become available.
VACSERA plans to produce more than 5 million doses of Sinovac in the first two months of its production and 40 million doses within a year.
Sinovac will be registered in Egypt under the name Sinovac Vacsera and will be exported to African countries.
