Hundreds of local residents protested Wednesday in front of the military officers club in El-Arish, North Sinai, to demand the authorities find a kidnapped child.
The protesters interrupted an official event attended by the governor and security director with representatives of Bedouin tribes, keeping them detained inside the club for several hours.
The protest ended after the authorities promised to listen to the protesters' demands.
“The scene would have turned ugly if the authorities had failed to negotiate with the protesters as there is a history of complications between Bedouins and El-Arish residents,” a security source told Ahram Online.
