Egypt and Sudan have begun a joint military drill aimed at bolstering military cooperation between the two countries, a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces spokesman read on Thursday.

The spokesman said the joint drill, dubbed Guardians of the Nile, began in Sudan with the participation of ground, naval and air forces from both countries’ armed forces.

The exercise included several theoretical and practical presentations to unify combat concepts and exchange training expertise.

Members of the special forces and paratroopers participating in the exercise executed several typical and atypical target practices, the statement said, adding that the exercise reflected precision in dealing with targets.

“The drill showed the level of professionalism and capabilities in executing missions, reflecting their combat readiness and joint work to support peace and stability in the region,” it said.

The joint drill is one of several exercises executed by the Egyptian and Sudanese armed forces recently, including joint aerial exercises Nile Eagles 1 in November 2020 and Nile Eagles 2 in March and April 2021.
