Egypt detected 1,007 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, bringing total cases nationwide since the outbreak last year to 261,666.

The health ministry reported 46 deaths, bringing total fatalities to 15,047.

The ministry said 599 patients have been discharged from hospitals nationwide following recovery in the past 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 191,332.

The Egyptian Cabinet on Sunday announced extending working hours for restaurants, shops, malls and cafes amid coronavirus, canceling a three-week decision to close these facilities at 9pm.

The summer working hours of commercial shops and shopping malls are set from 7am to 11pm on weekdays and until midnight during weekends. Coffee shops and restaurants can operate from 5am to 1am throughout the week.

The country will, however, continue its ban on weddings in closed halls, Premier Mostafa Madbouly said in a meeting with the higher committee tasked with managing the coronavirus crisis.

Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad following the meeting said the state has vaccinated 2.1 million citizens against coronavirus.

He noted that the authorities seek to vaccinate 50 percent of citizens throughout the year.
