A pickup truck collided with a train at a railroad crossing in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Qena on Friday, the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) authority said in a statement.
The collision led to the death of the truck driver, the ENR added.
The fuel tank of the train, which was travelling from Cairo to the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan, was damaged as well.
The pickup truck passed the Qena's railroad crossing from the opposite direction.
Egypt's railway system has had a poor safety record for decades, with deadly collisions and frequent accidents that are often blamed on poor maintenance and management.
The government has been implementing ambitious multi-billion-pound projects to replace hundreds of old train carriages and modernise an obsolete signalling system.
