Minister of Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram said Saturday that 1,995 stranded Egyptians in the UAE had so far registered themselves on the ministry’s online form to return home.

In a statement, the Emigration Ministry said that Makram was closely following up the status of the stranded Egyptians in the UAE, especially after announcing on July 8 the launch of an airlift to bring back them home.

Coordination is under way with Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani and Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar to return the Egyptians stranded there, added Makram.

This followed Saudi Arabia’s decision to stop admitting non-citizens amid the lack of information about reopening and travel there, she added.

Makram stated “as soon as the numbers of Egyptians stranded in the UAE, wishing to return, are registered, coordination will be made with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, to negotiate with tourism companies to discuss the possibility of returning citizens via the same travel agents through which they traveled and to discuss their application.”

She said stranded Egyptians who traveled via UAE airlines should register their trip details, especially the number of their tickets and the name of the airliner on the ministry's link.
