Egyptian naval forces managed to rescue ten foreign visitors on Wednesday, whose yacht ran aground and was stranded on a coral reef in the Straits of Tiran in the Aqaba Gulf.

The visitors on board the Swiss yacht included French, Swiss, Spanish, Danish, British and Australian citizens, Armed Forces spokesperson Gharib Abdel Hafiz said.

The yacht ran aground at dawn and sent out a distress signal, which a unit of the naval forces responded to, the spokesperson said.

The naval unit evacuated all the people on the yacht, provided them with humanitarian support and accompanied them to one of the Egyptian ports to finish relevant procedures, he added.
