331 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 230,699.

Egypt reported 49 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total infection tally officially to 284,311 since the outbreak began in February 2020, the health ministry said in its daily coronavirus update statement.

The ministry also reported 4 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 16,528.

The statement added that 331 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 230,699.

Egypt's single-day tolls of coronavirus new cases and deaths have been on a downward curve since early June as the country has passed the peak of the third wave.

Up to five million citizens have been vaccinated as the country is trying speeding up the inoculation process before the anticipated rise in the cases in September. However, some people said their second shots have been postponed for ten days. The health ministry has not commented on the issue so far.
