President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued decree no. 329 of 2021 on Thursday to extend the service of Dr. Shawky Allam as Egypt’s Mufti for an additional year starting from August 12, 2021.

The presidential decree was published in the official gazette.

On Wednesday, President El-Sisi issued decree no. 338 of year 2021 to classify Egypt's Dar El-Ifta which Allam heads as a special-purpose entity, which effectively means that the civil service law does not apply to Dar El-Ifta as an institution .

Sheikh Shawky Allam is head of the Dar El-Ifta, which is Egypt’s official body responsible for issuing religious edicts for Sunni Muslims.

He was first appointed to his position in February 2013, during the administration of late ousted President Mohamed Morsi, and has since served as the 19th mufti since the founding of the Dar El-Ifta in 1895.
