Egypt in September will organise a “tourism week” in Sharm El-Sheikh for a number of senior Serbian political, tourism, media, and religious figures, South Sinai governor Khaled Fouda announced on Monday.

The delegation will be invited to Sharm El-Sheikh to acquaint themselves with the various forms of tourism in the city, including cultural, recreational, health, environmental, religious, and sports tourism, Fouda said.

Fouda’s remarks came in a meeting with a number of senior businessmen, investors, and other officials.

This Serbian tourism week comes within the framework of activating a number of joint protocols in this regard, especially an agreement signed last month on establishing cooperation between the Serbian city of Niš and Sharm El-Sheikh, he added.

Fouda, heading a delegation of businessmen and investors, visited Serbia in July to foster cooperation between the two countries in various vital issues, increase the flow of tourism from Serbia to destinations in South Sinai, and support investment.

In the Serbian capital, Belgrade, Fouda met with Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabićways to discuss increasing the number of flights to Egyptian airports, especially Sharm El-Sheikh and other touristic cities.

During a third meeting with the head of the Civil Aviation Authority and deputy minister of transport of Serbia, Fouda discussed operating a direct regular flight from Belgrade to Sharm El-Sheikh as soon as possible.

Moreover, Fouda has agreed with Serbian officials on operating a direct flight between Sharm El-Sheikh and the Serbian city of Niš like the already-operating Belgrade-Hurghada direct flights.

During a meeting with the Mayor of Nis, Dragana Sotirovski, the governor also signed a preliminary agreement for the city of Niš to be a twin city of Sharm El-Sheikh, aiming to enhance cooperation between the two cities, especially in the field of tourism.

Sotirovski said Fouda’s visit “represents a strong start to the relations between the two countries,” and has promised to visit Sharm El-Sheikh, the statement noted.

It was agreed to name a square in the Serbian city of Niš after Sharm El-Sheikh.

Sharm El-Sheikh also welcomed in August direct flights carrying Russian tourists from Moscow after a six-year suspension that was a result of a Russian plane crashing in Sinai in 2015.
