Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated Israeli President Isaac Herzog in a telephone call on Sunday for assuming his post as well as for the advent of the new Jewish year, the Egyptian presidency announced.
El-Sisi and Herzog also discussed Egyptian-Israeli bilateral relations along with recent regional developments and efforts to revive the peace talks between Israel and Palestine.
This is the first telephone call between the two presidents since Herzog assumed his post as the president of Israel in July 2021.
In August, Egypt's General Intelligence Service Chief Abbas Kamel visited Tel Aviv, where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and his national security advisor and discussed safeguarding the Egyptian-sponsored ceasefire in the Palestinian territories as well as efforts to push forward the peace process.
Earlier in May, a ceasefire deal sponsored by Egypt was reached between Israel and Palestine’s factions to end an 11-day episode of Israeli military aggression on the Gaza Strip.
