Cairo’s civil protection units managed to control a destructive fire that broke out at dawn on Wednesday in 12 wood shops in the bustling Al-Sharabiya district that claimed no casualties, a statement by the governorate said.
As soon as the blaze was reported, all concerned authorities were notified and the situation was dealt with by deploying 25 fire engines by civil protection forces, the governorate said.
Natural gas and electricity services were also disconnected from the site of the fire in coordination with the concerned authorities to avoid fueling the flames.
Cairo’s Governor Khaled Abdel-Aal toured the scene of the incident to inspect civil protection units’ efforts to control the fire.
According to the statement, he called for the quick removal of all traces of the fire after the Public Prosecution and the relevant authorities conclude their investigations.
