On the 69th anniversary of National Farmers’ Day in Egypt, which falls on 9 September, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi pledged support to Egyptian farmers to provide them a decent life.

“I extend my greetings to the Egyptian farmer on his day, on which he obtained his independence, freedom, pride and dignity,” El-Sisi wrote on his official Facebook page on Thursday.

National Farmers' Day has been celebrated since the issuance of the Agrarian Reform Law in 1952. The law redistributed agricultural lands nationwide to poor farmers in a bid to achieve social justice, a goal that was set by the 23 July Revolution 1952 that abolished the monarchy.

The president added that he is fully keen to support farmers and harness all required capabilities to secure a decent life for them.

Egypt's pyramids, Suez Canal and Aswan High Dam "are all indebted to the effort, the sweat and the genius of millions of farmers over the ages,” El-Sisi said.

The state had been ramping up its efforts since 2020 to improve the standards of living, infrastructure, and services after El-Sisi launched the countryside-focused Decent Life Initiative.

The initiative targets 58 percent of Egypt’s 102 million-person population who live in 4,658 villages across the country, with an estimated budget of EGP 700 billion (around $44.6 billion).
